Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) has approved the listing of the Qatar Exchange Traded Funds (QETF) for trading its units on the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) from March 5.

In a press release on Sunday, the QFMA said the listing of QETF for trading is a continuation of its efforts to constantly develop Qatari capital market, maintain its regional and international gains, advance the competitiveness of the capital market in the country and diversify investment products in the Qatari capital market.

Investment funds play an important role in capital markets as they can offer investment opportunities to small investors under the supervision of specialised entities, which may reduce their overall exposure to risk.

"In order to keep up with the developments and transformations in the financial sector, both domestically and internationally, particularly with regard to the financial markets sector, the QFMA had issued legislations regulating the listing of such funds, as it issued in 2013 the listing rules for investment fund's units, and the listing rules for real estate investment fund's units in 2015," QFMA CEO Nasser al Shaibi said.
